C Spire Wireless selects Devicescape for Wi-Fi hotspot connection service
San Bruno, Calif. (June 18, 2013) – Devicescape today announced that C Spire Wireless, the nation’s largest privately held wireless communications provider and the only one offering personalized services, will deploy Devicescape’s Curator Service. The solution enables C Spire customers to better manage data usage and ensure superior connectivity.
C Spire customers benefit from Devicescape’s growing Curated Virtual Network (CVN) of over 12 million high-quality Wi-Fi hotspots and intelligent network selection software allowing automated access to Wi-Fi and ease of connectivity. The Ridgeland, Miss.-based provider offers a suite of personalized wireless services and premier mobile communications devices to nearly one million subscribers.
Wi-Fi hotspot connection service promises higher quality and faster connections
“Our priority is to deliver a personalized, high quality wireless experience to our customers and offer services that anticipate their needs,” said Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer for C Spire Wireless. “As customers use their devices for more services and applications that require data, implementing Devicescape’s service will help them better manage data while improving the quality and speed of their total data experience.”
Hankins said C Spire has a long history of providing the most customer value for its suite of services and the selection of Devicescape’s industry-leading Wi-Fi hotspot connection service is just the latest example. “We’ve been an industry leader for over two decades by introducing new services that help customers get the most value and benefit from their wireless plan. Selecting Devicescape’s service will allow us to continue that trend,” he said.
The Devicescape Curator Service allows users to gain automatic access to the company’s CVN of public Wi-Fi hotspots, which are continuously QoE tested in real-time to ensure they meet C Spire’s requirements for a carrier-grade quality experience. Devicescape’s Curator Client, working together with the Curator Service Platform in the cloud, identifies the best available connection at any given time and connects to it, resulting in simplified connectivity and increased overall Wi-Fi usage.
“We are thrilled to be working with C Spire to extend the capacity and reach of their network as we help deliver the always-best-connected experience to their customers,” said Dave Fraser, CEO of Devicescape. “C Spire has built a reputation as a company with a passionate focus on delivering personalized services, and the Curator Service will give their customers an enhanced experience as devices intelligently connect to the best available network.”
The rising costs of mobile data use are a continuing concern to consumers and service providers, driving the search for solutions that help better manage data transmission costs and improve the mobile experience. The pervasive nature of amenity Wi-Fi, and Devicescape’s ability to deliver it in a curated form, allows the Curator Service to deliver industry leading incremental offload rates from 15 to 50 percent over and above normal Wi-Fi home and office use.
Devicescape moves beyond Wi-Fi offload and uniquely combines intelligent network selection with the world’s largest curated virtual network of high-quality Wi-Fi hotspots. This enables mobile operators to magnify their capacity-reach and elevate the “always best connected” experience. Headquartered in San Bruno, California, Devicescape is privately held by leading venture capital companies, including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, August Capital, Jafco Ventures and Enterprise Partners.
