Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router Receives “Best LTE Traffic Management Product” Award

MORRISVILLE, N.C. — December 11, 2012 — Mobile broadband solutions company Tekelec won the “Best LTE Traffic Management Product” with its market-leading Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) at the LTE North America Awards 2012. This category showcases how a traffic management product contributes to making LTE more attractive for operators to deploy and more successful in commercial LTE deployments.

This was Tekelec’s third award for the DSR in November. The product also recently won Light Reading’s 2012 Leading Lights “Best Product (Mobile)” and the Global Broadband Traffic Management Congress 2012’s “Best Signaling Solution for Traffic Management”.

Industry analysts from firms Arthur D. Little, Chetan Sharma Consulting, Informa Telecoms & Media, Infonetics Research, Signals Research, and Yankee Group selected Tekelec as the winner.

Tekelec’s DSR was chosen because of its ability to manage rapid and unpredictable LTE Diameter signaling traffic. The DSR supports hundreds of thousands of messages per minute, tens of millions of concurrent sessions, and hundreds of millions of subscribers and devices. It also mediates Diameter protocol variants and provides protocol interworking to help operators effectively manage 2G/3G-to-LTE and LTE-to-LTE roaming.

The DSR acts as the central nervous system of the New Diameter Network, which relies on the Diameter protocol to exchange network, subscriber, policy, and charging information supporting mobile data activity.

“LTE requires intelligent Diameter routing to architect scalable, reliable and elastic core networks,” said Houck Reed, vice president of product management and marketing at Tekelec. “Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router plays a critical role in managing signaling traffic growth and enabling new profitable LTE services.”

Earlier this year, the Tekelec LTE Diameter Signaling Index™ forecasted LTE Diameter signaling traffic growth will outpace mobile data traffic growth by a three-to-one ratio through 2016. Key drivers of Diameter volume are policy and charging messages supporting usage-based service plans, authentication and roaming for LTE subscribers, and increased usage of voice over LTE (VoLTE) and video streaming.

Market intelligence firm Exact Ventures estimates that Tekelec has 75 percent to 85 percent market share. Tekelec has 24 DSR customers.
