Tekelec Leads Diameter Signaling Market with 75-85% Share Says Exact Ventures
Analyst Firm Nearly Triples 2012 Market Size Forecast
MORRISVILLE, N.C. — July 11, 2012 — The exploding Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) market “continues to be dominated by Tekelec,” according to Exact Ventures, which estimates $1 billion in cumulative DSC product revenues by 2016. The analyst firm credits Tekelec with 75% – 85% of current market share, citing Tekelec’s:
• “Strong foundation” of SS7 signaling;
• Early entry into the Diameter routing market; and
• 19 customer wins for its Diameter Signaling Router (DSR).
Tekelec “has firmly established its leadership in the DSC market,” said Greg Collins, founder and principal analyst of Exact Ventures. He also stated that the company’s customer footprint “makes it clear that Tekelec has won the vast majority of the large-scale DSC deployments to date.”
Exact Ventures’ research comes in the new report, “Diameter Signaling Controllers: Forecast Report & Analysis 2012-2017.” An excerpt of the report is available here. The firm nearly tripled last year’s estimate for 2012 DSC revenue. In addition, Exact Ventures forecasted DSC market revenue will grow an average of 56% per year over the next five years due to “extraordinary growth in smartphone-based signaling traffic plus the growing number of network nodes that require signaling.”
The analyst firm says operators face “an urgent need for a new signaling infrastructure” and “are becoming more cognizant of how much of their future network plans depend on Diameter signaling.” Key buying criteria include interoperability with existing network equipment and scalability to meet higher transaction requirements.
Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router gives service providers the scalability, reliability and flexibility to manage mobile data and signaling growth and profit from mobile data services. It is a key component of the New Diameter Network, which relies on the Diameter protocol to exchange network, subscriber, policy, and charging information.
Tekelec also announced today that it is the leading independent policy market vendor by share for the third consecutive year, according to a new report from Analysys Mason.
“The success of service provider mobile data strategies relies on a New Diameter Network,” said Doug Suriano, chief technology officer of Tekelec. “Those deploying a Diameter infrastructure in the early stages of their LTE and IMS deployments will be better positioned to profit from innovative data services and avoid signaling storms.”
