BILLION DOLLAR HOLDING CO.

The Brief

Working for a billion-dollar holding company, Babel led the crisis communications around one of its acquisitions in its range of technology businesses. The business in question had been unprofitable for some time, and the holding company had decided it could not invest further. Consequently, the business was forced to file for insolvency.

The Insight

That decision had implications not only for the usual stakeholders (customers, suppliers, employees, etc.) but could have been perceived as having a serious impact on technology solutions deployed for the 2024 European Parliament elections and others worldwide. This posed the potential for major negative news coverage in international business media. Babel's task was to define a communications strategy to avoid that perception being realised, and equally, to ensure attention focused solely on the insolvent business to avoid reputational damage to the holding company and its remaining businesses.

The Strategy

Babel designed and developed the internal and external messaging strategy and materials (for all internal/external audiences), coached the executives involved and handled incoming enquiries from both media and minor shareholders in the business.

The Impact

As a result, news coverage was very limited, short lived and avoided mention of either the European Parliament elections or the holding company.
