Tekelec Wins Five New Diameter Signaling Router Customers
Expands New Diameter Network to Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Canada
BARCELONA, Spain — Mobile World Congress Hall 1 Stand 1F44 — February 27, 2012 —Tekelec, the mobile broadband solutions company, has won five new Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) customers. Tekelec’s DSR, the intelligent core of the New Diameter Network, helps operators manage mobile data and signaling growth and profit from mobile data services.
The new customers are:
• Two Asia-Pacific tier one operators that will use the DSR’s core routing and roaming capabilities for their LTE networks.
• A tier-one Western European operator that is testing core LTE network routing with the DSR. The operator began testing LTE last year.
• A Mexican wireless operator testing several Diameter traffic routing scenarios for its 3G network.
• A Canadian tier one LTE operator.
These customer wins further reinforce Tekelec’s “front runner” position in the Diameter signaling market as highlighted by Infonetics Research. Nine service providers have selected 13 DSR systems from the company. Four of the customers are U.S. LTE providers.
“Billions of connected devices taking advantage of new mobile broadband networks, new applications and new service plans are all conspiring to create an explosion in Diameter signaling traffic. The result? New stresses on operator policy servers, charging systems, subscriber databases, and gateways in IP networks,” said Peter Jarich, service director with market intelligence firm Current Analysis. “Tekelec’s customer wins tell us two things. Diameter routing has become a required technology for operators in all regions to manage this signaling traffic growth and, backed by wins with early LTE pioneers, Tekelec has the solutions to meet these requirements.”
The Diameter Signaling Router supports several use cases for 3G and all-IP LTE and IMS networks. For example, centralized core routing functionality enables operators to scale policy, charging, and subscriber data management systems and efficiently add and provision new network elements. In addition, the DSR supports roaming between partners’ LTE networks, and between LTE and 2G/3G networks for mobility management and authentication.
“The New Diameter Network is the foundation for monetizing data services and managing the explosive growth in Diameter signaling and data traffic,” said Doug Suriano, Tekelec’s chief technology officer. “Operators around the world including these new customers in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Canada are choosing Tekelec to build their Diameter networks because they require high performance and a broad range of 3G and LTE use cases to deliver new services.”
