I recently sat down with Saskia Koopman, Tech Reporter at City AM, to talk about her plans for Mobile World Congress this year - what she wants to see, who she wants to hear from and speak to. Read on for some hot tips on how to angle your news item for optimal pick-up.

Roughly how many briefings are you planning to take at MWC?

“It’s my first time going, so I’m not really sure how many briefings I’ll do. I’ll aim for two or three per day, but it’ll probably end up being more.”

Who are you most keen to speak to – vendors, operators, or a mix?

“I’m keen to speak to vendors and operators, perhaps with more of a focus on the operator side.”

Are there particular job titles you find most valuable to meet?

“I would say CTOs are always interesting, but I’m not too worried about their titles. It’s more about their angle.”

What topics are you most interested in discussing this year?

“I tend to decide more specific angles based on the keynotes at the event – to see where the focus of the discussion is.”

How do you split your time between editorial and sponsored activity at MWC?

“I think I’ll be doing mostly editorial briefings. I’m also going to be doing some video stuff for our YouTube and TikTok, which will be fun.”

What advice would you give exhibitors trying to get your attention?

“Something with a good angle and an interesting hook, that understands where our editorial line is, is definitely more likely to catch my eye.”

Any pitching pet peeves during MWC season?

“As it’s my first one, I’m not sure yet - you’ll have to ask me this one next year!”
