Virgin Media selects Devicescape Wi-Fi solution

London & San Bruno, Calif., 12 February, 2014 – Devicescape has announced that Virgin Media has signed a contract for the supply of their Wi-Fi service platform, underpinned by the company’s Curated Virtual Network (CVN). Users will benefit from greater connectivity to Wi-Fi hotspots when they’re on the go. Devicescape forecasts its CVN network will reach 1.1 million locations in the UK by 2017.

Devicescape are contracted to supply Virgin Media with both the Public and Personal Curator services from the Devicescape Service Platform. Personal Curator simplifies the connection to Wi-Fi in the customer’s home and the Public Curator service will enable automatic connectivity to quality-controlled Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the UK, ensuring customers have the best possible reliable data connection.

Jamie Heywood, director of mobile at Virgin Media said, “We‘re always looking at new ways to ensure our customers have access to the best possible data connection, whether in home or on the go. Using Wi-Fi we know how much our customers value services like Virgin TV Anywhere so it’s important we’re able to deliver a seamless integrated experience when it comes to data connectivity.”

The UK is home to the most ‘connected’ shopping street in the world, as Devicescape recently discovered that Oxford Street has a greater amenity Wi-Fi density than comparable shopping streets in New York, Tokyo or Paris.

“Mobile data demand continues to both be a challenge and an opportunity, which has led to innovative companies like Virgin Media implementing strategies to enhance the online experience of its customers,” said Dave Fraser, CEO of Devicescape. “As more and more network operators adopt a public Wi-Fi strategy to support their existing infrastructure, the benefits of Devicescape’s CVN for mobile subscribers will become increasingly apparent.”

Devicescape curates and automates amenity Wi-Fi networks for telecom operators around the world, helping magnify capacity-reach and automatically connect subscribers to the best available network at any given time. The CVN is made up of a subset of hotspots which are QoE tested in real-time, ensuring they meet carrier-grade specifications.
