MediaCorp selects Oregan Media Browser for delivery of internet video programming and context-relevant applications
LONDON, UK, and SINGAPORE – November 3, 2011 – Oregan Networks today announced that it has been selected by MediaCorp, Singapore’s leading media company, as a key enabler of its up-coming Over-the-Top (OTT) interactive TV service on set top boxes. Oregan Media Browser provides the media player and run-time environment for the User Interface applications, which allow users to interact with live and on-demand content via on-screen graphical overlays.
Oregan Media Browser incorporates adaptive bitrate streaming of high definition video assets – a key ingredient that allows for dynamic adjustment of stream quality to match real network conditions. The set top box platform is remotely upgradeable, to allow MediaCorp to future-proof its service and application offerings.
The new service is designed to take advantage of the country’s highly developed broadband infrastructure and the upcoming next generation broadband network for delivery of its vast library of content to Singaporeans. In addition to live TV, ‘catch-up’ services and video on demand (VoD), MediaCorp plans to incorporate both standalone and contextual browser-based applications, such as voting, social networking, and related content.
MediaCorp’s Vice President, Technology Services for Interactive Media, Seow Yoke Kong said, “Oregan’s media browser platform, as well as their expertise in delivering secure, flexible and cost effective consumer media products, enables us to meet our delivery times and future-proof the product.”
He added, “Oregan’s platform allows us to offer real-time, web-style interactivity that significantly adds to the entertainment value of our programming and provides an opportunity to engage with subscribers on a more personalised level.”
Mark Perry, Oregan’s CEO, said, “The new MediaCorp service is a significant project that signals the advent of true convergence in the Singapore market. Oregan aims to empower MediaCorp with the tools to create ultimate service differentiation and significant new revenue models – through bespoke apps and increased viewer engagement. From the technological perspective, a robust and adaptable TV browser is a crucial technology component and one that makes it possible to easily deliver a consistent and compelling user experience across the three screens – television, PC and mobile devices. Oregan is committed to a long-term relationship with MediaCorp, to maximise the potential of its OTT service – for MediaCorp itself and the customers it serves.’
