Procera Networks and Brocade partnership improves visibility of mobile, over-the-top applications for QoE
The collaboration empowers mobile operators to more accurately identify and more quickly act on application trends and activities
Fremont, Calif., February 21, 2017 — Procera Networks today announced a joint solution with Brocade that combines Brocade’s Envision Fabric visibility product line with Procera’s eVolution Virtual Experience Probe to give mobile operators greater visibility and real-time access to deeper network, subscriber, and traffic intelligence. It’s designed in response to demand for better understanding of subscriber behaviors and how this impacts the OTT services they use.
The new solution highlights the growing need from operators for broader and deeper contextual insights about network traffic and subscriber experience. This is made possible via Procera’s eVolution Virtual Experience Probe. By focusing on subscriber service and application usage behavior, rather than simply on characteristics of overall network performance, the eVolution probe can pull much deeper insights from subscriber traffic which can then be used for advanced QoE management and the delivery of highly differentiated offerings. It’s capable of identifying:
- over 2800 over-the-top applications,
- types of devices in use,
- locations involved,
- routes and peering links crossed,
- and subscriber service plans.
eVolution is a virtualized probe that runs as a VNF on industry standard hardware. It’s designed to scale in order to meet the ever-changing traffic requirements of today’s 4G evolved packet core networks. eVolution takes advantage of Procera’s PacketLogic/V software to guide operators through optimizing their network investments, improving the overall subscriber quality of experience, and also identifying new revenue generating opportunities.
“Our work with Brocade really goes to demonstrate the versatility of our PacketLogic/V software for network and subscriber analytics,” said John McNamara, Vice President, OEM and SI Sales, at Procera Networks. “Operators are relying on Procera’s network and subscriber analytics more than ever to prioritize how they go about delivering a solid customer experience. PacketLogic/V gives them much better insights into the areas of improvement that are most important to subscribers.”
Brocade’s Envision Fabric network visibility technology combines hardware and software packet brokers with a scalable, software-based session director. Brocade also offers a full-featured Virtual Packet Broker. The Envision Fabric portfolio brings the scalability, agility and flexibility of NFV to network visibility, and provides flow aggregation, replication, load-balancing, filtering and traffic optimization capabilities with an open architecture.
Brocade Visibility Manager is an intuitive “single pane of glass” management interface for managing and collecting network wide analytics from all hardware and software elements in the solution. Procera’s eVolution integrates with the Envision Fabric via the Open API Framework to provide visibility into Over-The-Top (OTT) applications.
“Our work with Procera is an important part of our plan to provide our customers clear visibility into Over-The-Top (OTT) application traffic on their networks,” said Ravi Medikonda, VP/GM of Network Visibility and Analytics at Brocade. “As mobile networks evolve towards 5G, there is an important need for operators to provide differentiated offerings that cooperate with OTT applications. This allows them to create new revenue growth opportunities to offset the stagnation in user and bandwidth revenues.”
