‘Amazon for COVID-19 supplies’ enables French hospitals to receive PPE and other critical equipment within 24 hours

  • 20,000 masks and 20,000 litres of hand sanitiser provided in five days since platform’s launch
  • Clinique, Shiseido, and Arkema among companies signed up
  • Thousands of donations being made via platform

Paris, France, 26th March 2020 -An online platform which launched five days ago in France has enabled French hospitals to receive over 20,000 masks and 20,000 litres of hand sanitiser to date, the platform’s creator, Mirakl, has today revealed, in stark contrast to the situation in the UK. Developed in collaboration with the French Ministry for the Economy and Finance, StopCOVID19.fr connects manufacturers of essential items — such as masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, and gowns — with French hospitals, with equipment provided within 24 hours. Some of the world’s leading manufacturers and chemical companies including Clinique, Shiseido, Arkema, and Seqens have already signed up, with over 400 requesting to join in the days since its launch.

Built within 48 hours, the platform can be easily adopted by other nations, and comes at a critical time when hospitals throughout the world are struggling to access essential equipment. Speaking on Monday, UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock stated that he was “determined to ensure that the right kit gets to the right hospital, the right ambulance service, the right doctors’ surgery, right across the country.”

Mirakl is providing and maintaining the platform free of charge, with many manufacturers opting to donate rather than sell equipment. Examples include CHU Hospital in Nevers, France, which received 1,000 litres of hand sanitising gel. All requests to sell or donate are qualified by the company.

Mirakl CEO, Philippe Corrot, said: “This platform is a testament to the power of collaboration: bringing together tech, government, producers and distributors into one place. It’s a testament to the agility and efficiency of businesses to expand their reach and range, and pivot into any category depending on the need. And most importantly, this platform is a testament to the people who, in times of great need, have come together to do great things.”

“We are proud to be working with the French government on such an important initiative, and we hope to extend the service to other markets and support healthcare professionals around the globe,” Philippe Corrot concluded.
