Vislink to launch Mantis-LT flyaway antenna at IBC 2014

Hemel Hempstead, UK, 27 August 2014 – Vislink, the global provider of broadcast communications equipment, today announced plans to launch its Mantis-LT lightweight antenna at IBC 2014.

The Mantis-LT unit includes the Ku band feed and materials developed for Vislink’s successful Mantis MSAT satellite data terminal. Available with either a 90cm or 120cm reflector for Ku band TX/RX operation, the Mantis-LT offers unrivalled flexibility for customers to package their own hardware into Vislink’s portable and lightweight terminal design.

Based on the precision antenna system used in the military spec MSAT terminal launched by Vislink last year, the Mantis-LT is suitable for use across the broadcast and surveillance markets as an ultra-lightweight quick deploy flyaway antenna. The portable form factor makes it ideal for satellite newsgathering, emergency communications or disaster recovery applications. The Mantis-LT can also be paired with a variety of Vislink uplink products for additional data and video applications.

Featuring a collapsible design, the 90cm antenna can be stowed in a single backpack-style case. The 120cm option fits into two cases which can be joined together to create a single backpack, yet still weighs less than 23kgs.

“Agencies that rely on lightweight, quick deploy flyaway systems have been waiting for a faster and simpler way to set up satcom terminals for use with their existing equipment. With the Mantis-LT this can be achieved with a single airline-checkable flight case,” said Ashley Dove, General Manager at Vislink. “Designed to support a range of additional electronics, which Vislink can package into complimentary sub 15kg flight cases, the Mantis-LT is ideal for systems that require TX powers of up to 200W for high data rate or HD video deployments.”

The Mantis-LT meets the sidelobe and cross-polar specifications of all major satellite operators, making this lightweight precision antenna ideal for high quality video transmission. For more information on the Mantis-LT or any other Vislink product, see Vislink at IBC 2014 (stand 1.A69).
